Al Izen who at the time was art director working on Karmin Ghia advertising at DDB agency called to give me an assignment. The photograph he wanted me to take was to show a KG surrounded by heavy traffic. Sounds like something that might be simple to do, but not really. What I decided to do was rent a large panel truck and lie on top facing backwards and then block traffic on 7th avenue at rush hour. Normally traffic is bad at that hour; my plan was to make it worse. Lying on my belly on top of the truck the driver of the truck and the KG were kept in communication with walkie talkies by me. I would say to the truck driver slow, slower, stop in an effort to mess up the already congested traffic as the KG trailed in back. We never asked for a permit from the police department because they would not have granted one. We just went and did what we were doing as fast as we could and hoped not to get arrested.
